Car maker BMW has announced that its upcoming self-driving car, the i Next will launch in 2021 featuring autonomous driving, lightweight design and digital connectivity.
Many car makers are developing new self driving cars that they want to push towards the next generation of upcoming drivers and BMW CEO Harald Kruger has given us our first glimpse of one that will be ready within the next 4 years.
i Next will feature a brand new interior, autonomous driving, digital connectivity and an intelligent lightweight design that he believes will appeal to BMW customers world-wide.
Several other concepts from BMW have already been showcased and these include the iVision Future Interaction Concept and the Vision Next 100 that included pictures of the insides of the vehicles.
BMW’s CEO Said:
“The discussion about e-mobility is an emotional one, but the decisive factor is that we move things forward. I am certain that government measures will prove effective,”
“It is always better to make a decision than to wait – and the purchase incentive will directly benefit customers.
There was never any doubt that we would participate. Such a participation by the industry is unique worldwide.
After all, the only way to make progress is by manufacturers, customers, lawmakers and society all working together.”
The i Next announcement from BMW comes amid several other companies making a major push into the self-driving car market including Volvo who are expanding there research into China and the UK.
Google has also recently added self driving technology into Chrysler Minivans and Tesla cars can now control both the steering and throttle on auto-pilot mode.
If you are looking forward to fully self-driving cars hitting the road then the good news is you only have 4 years or less to wait.
